KPA Releases New Hazard Communication Training to Meet Updated OSHA Requirements

Lafayette, CO (PRWEB) January 14, 2013

KPA has released new Hazard Communication training to help dealerships and service facilities comply with the employee training requirements mandated by the updated OSHA Hazard Communication Standard and to ensure that their employees know how to use their written hazcom program, chemical inventory, safety data sheets, and container labeling to protect themselves on the job.

The updated standard, signed into law in March 2012, aligns U.S. regulations with the United Nations Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). The GHS calls for standardization of chemical labeling and formatting of Safety Data Sheets to make it easier for employees to understand the risks associated with chemicals at their facility.

Hazard communication remains number one on the top 10 list of OSHA citations, said KPA Products Manager Peter Zaidel. People think nothing bad will happen to them. Our goal with this new training is not just to comply with the updated standard, but also to help our clients to create a safer working environment.

The new training centers around hazardous situations at dealerships and service facilities and requires employees to process the cause and effect of their actions. Its designed to engage employees of all levels of experience and knowledge and is available online and in person. The delivery options give KPA clients flexibility to train their employees in a way that is convenient to their operations.

Employers must train their staff on the updated standard by December 1, 2013. KPAs new training gives clients a head start on compliance and helps them jump start their safety culture. Developing a strong safety culture is far more important that simply focusing on compliance, said KPA Vice President of Product and Business Development Eric Schmitz. It also makes good business sense. Focusing on safety saves money on workers compensation. The fewer injuries you have, the lower your experience modifier.

In addition to offering new hazard communication training, KPA employs over 60 safety professionals who can answer questions and guide clients through the challenges of implementing the new GHS requirements at their businesses.
